French Angora Fleeces for Sale

I currently have some beautiful angora fleeces from my French Angora rabbits that I am offering for sale.  All the fleeces were heavily sorted (unless specified otherwise) and should be very clean with minimal webbing, second cuts, or felting.  The fleeces are very suitable for spinning as is, blending with other fibers, or using for wet or needle felting projects.  Angora fiber is very lightweight compared to other animal fibers and it goes a long way in a project.  The fibers spin well in a variety of yarn weights and can be spun on a drop spindle or wheel with ease.  Please consider all weights approximate as we do not have a certified scale.  I did my best to try to match the colors in the photos to the true colors of the fleeces but there may be slight variances.  All prices include shipping within the United States.   

Blue Fleece - 2 ounces, Price:  $20 shipped - SOLD

Fleece color:  Blue (dark bluish gray tips fading to a lighter gray-blue)

Type:  Clipped

Staple Length:  approximately 2-3”

Weight:  approx. 2 ounces/57 grams

This fleece is the baby coat of my current buck, Campanula.  The fleece is heavily crimped and silky smooth with minimal guard hairs as it is a baby coat.  Good length and color for a baby fleece.  I am offering the fleece as is so there may be some shorter staple length of wool in it but most averages 2-3”.  Although this fleece could be spun by itself, I would recommend blending it since it is shorter length (unless you have previous experience spinning shorter fleeces). 

Chestnut Fleece – 0.9 ounces, Price:  $11 shipped - SOLD

Fleece color:  Chestnut (brownish blue tips fading to a grayish-white)

Type:  Clipped

Staple Length:  approximately 2.5-3.5”

Weight:  0.9 ounces/26 grams

This fleece is a younger coat from my French Angora doe, Mouse.  It is silky soft, well crimped, and spins beautifully.  There are minimal guard hairs in it so if you prefer less guard hairs then this fleece would be ideal for you.  Heavily sorted and any seconds are removed.  Would be wonderful spun as is or blended with another fiber. 

Broken Black Fleece – 1.7 ounces, Price:  $19 shipped

Fleece color:  black and white (pure white sections of fleece and black tipped sections fading to dark gray)

Type:  Clipped

Staple Length:  approximately 3-4”

Weight:  1.7 ounces/49 grams

This fleece came from Reflection, a gorgeous black and white (spotted) angora doe I had.  The color and texture of this fleece is amazing.  There are “black” and white sections to the coat which could be separated and spun separately or both colors could be blended for a lovely variegated yarn.  There are more guard hairs in this fleece but if desired, they could easily be removed by grasping the guard hairs and pulling them out gently while holding onto the bottom portion of the fleece staple.  Heavily sorted so there are minimal seconds in it.  This fleece would be very nice spun as is or blended with another fiber.

Lionhead Babies!

Spring is in the air with lots of Lionhead bunnies born and more on the way!  We currently have 22 Lionhead kits out of 7 moms.  We have 5 REWs, 1 Tort-Blue, 1 Tort-Black, 4 BEWs, 1 Broken Blue Silver Martin VC, 1 Broken Black VC, 8 Blacks (4 are VCs), and 1 Blue. 

Here are two of my little black does out of Peppercorn's litter.  They are cute as can be!

There are many very promising babies this spring and will be going up on the Lionheads for Sale page on our website soon. 

I have one little REW doe available right now.  I think she is a Teddy, but she may shed out.  She has really nice type and carries herself well and would be excellent bred to a buck that needs more mane.  She is 8 weeks old and $50.

We exhibited our Lionheads at the Great Lakes Rabbit & Cavy Show in Mason and took BOB Lionhead on show A with Lynette and BOS on show B.  Cornelius took BOV on both shows as well and the judges loved him.  Hopefully in a few years chocolate Lionheads can take BOB too.

Lionhead Breeding Program

With the wonderful news of Lionheads becoming an official ARBA recognized breed, we have been planning our fall/winter breeding program to focus more on the new fully-recognized colors, ruby eyed white and tort.  We will continue to breed chocolates, shadeds, and blue eyed whites, which have COVs with the ARBA.

There are many little Lionheads in the nesting boxes right now and they are looking very promising.  Milky Way X Hoppin' John - 2 REWs, 1 black, 1 chocolate, and 1 lilac.  Rain Dance X Le Petit Prince - 1 REW, 1 siamese sable, and 1 seal.  Cocoa X Royal Blue -1 REW.  Francesca Rose X Royal Blue - 3 REWs and 1 chocolate.

We also have two Lionheads available for sale.  One is a beautiful show quality REW junior buck out of Milky Way to Midnight Blizzard - $50.  The other is a sweet little lilac junior doe for $30 out of Peppercorn to Midnight Blizzard.  Lilac doesn't currently have a COV, so it is not showable, but she would do very well in a chocolate, black, or tort breeding program. 

We also have a sweet pet Dutch doe available for adoption.  She has a wonderful personality and is litter box trained. 

Winter is fast-approaching and the air is getting sharp already.  Thankfully, we can continue to breed our does throughout the season and everyone can stay warm indoors.

First Rabbit Show of the Season

We had a great time at the annual MI Spring Convention this year.  We showed on show a on Saturday and brought Lionheads for exhibition, as well as one of our angora’s fleeces.  The following are our awards:

** Blossom Acres’ Freezing Rain Fleece – 3^rd place plucked fleece – smoke pearl

 We also brought home some new additions (of course J).  We obtained a beautiful proven senior chocolate Lionhead doe from Wisconsin lines.  She will be a wonderful addition to our breeding program.  We also obtained a BEW baby Lionhead doe, which will be the start to our new BEW program.  I picked up a junior REW French Angora buck as well.  He has amazing density and a body to win, so he should be a great addition to my program.  He is only 4 months old and already weighs in at 7 pounds 4 ounces, so he should be a wonderful asset to bulk up my stock.  I can’t wait to start incorporating him in my breeding program.

The show was wonderful.  Angoras were sanctioned so breeders from Cananda and Michigan were exhibiting.  There were a total of 47 French Angoras shown and around a dozen or so English.  I was very happy with the quality of the angoras shown, and am excited to see new breeders working to make our breed even better.

We sold our remaining Netherland Dwarfs but we do have some Lionheads up for sale.

Updates!

Our new group on Ravelry, Blossom Acres Farm and Rabbitry, is very successful.  It was put up a little while ago and has almost 20 members!  If you are interested in joining and hearing the latest feed please view our last post with info on joining.  Below is a banner of our group!

I recently received my grand champion legs for Blossom Acres' White Out.  She now has 3 GC Legs!  I will be clipping her down soon and breeding her.  Hopefully she will make many more grand champions! 

We are expecting new Lionhead kits and will be breeding our French Angoras shortly.  We are still trying to get our Satins bred but so far are unsuccessful.

We currently have 1 skein of handspun alpaca yarn for sale.  It is single ply, worsted weight, in the colors of green with a touch of blue and yellow.  Approximate weight:  2 ounces.  $15.  Below is a picture.

Rabbitry Update

I haven’t been very good about keeping up with this blog, but I have been very busy.  Here is the latest news in the rabbitry. 

We have bred quite a few of our breeding stock – New Zealands, French Angoras, and Lionheads.  Some of the litters are current and some are upcoming!  Both of my beautiful New Zealand does had their litters fairly recently – about 3 weeks apart.  Tracey had 6 chunky babies and Snowflake had 11 born, with 9 still around.  I am very impressed with this doe’s mothering abilities.  This is her first litter and she is doing an excellent job caring and doting over her family.  Perhaps she will have the best success rate of all my does?!  So far it looks like there are 7 bucks and 2 does.  I really hope that some of those “bucks” do turn out to be does as I don’t know if I could manage 7 of them.  They are in the ? faze right now so I am really hoping that at least some turn out to be does!  If not then I should have some very nice bucks available for sale!    

As for the other litters, I am expecting 2 litters of French Angoras, one of which is due on Independence Day (not purposely planned).  We are also expecting a whole bunch of Lionhead litters.  Please check out our website to see our current and upcoming litters as there are way too many to list here!

Unfortunately, we have not been able to attend any shows lately.  The last one we attended was in March, so it has been a fairly long time!  We plan on attending a show on August 25^th, located in Charlotte Michigan.  From there it will lead to a show in September, plus a few others later in the year.  For this reason, we are not going to have very many rabbits available for sale during this time, as most of the breedings that we have done were specifically for these shows. 

Right now we do have some very nice rabbits looking for new homes.  The following rabbits are available for purchase:

Blossom Acres’ Ocean Storm, Jr. Opal French Angora buck, born April 3^rd, 2012.  Out of a grand champion chocolate buck and a red doe.  This rabbit has a very nice body and beautiful fiber.  Chocolate carrier.  $50 with pedigree

I also have a broken black satin doe for sale as a pet.  Spot has a nice personality and is very flashy.  I really need the cage space so I am letting her go.  $15 no pedigree

I also have 2 chestnut French Angoras, full siblings, a buck and a doe.  I have decided to keep both babies for now as I am trying to figure where I am going in my breeding program.  I may keep 1 or both, time will tell!  Please contact me and ask to go on the waiting list if interested!  Both are chocolate carriers and very nice quality.

Rabbitry Update

We have had some new happenings here at Blossom Acres.  We have decided to sell out of our Californians in order to better focus on our other breeds.  We currently have 2 rabbits for sale- a doe and a buck.  I am charging $30 for the buck and $40 for the doe.  Both are proven and come with pedigrees.  More information can be seen on our website:  blossomacresrabbitry.webs.com. 

Recently we bred Tracey, our New Zealand White doe to Baby Boy, our NZW buck.  This was his first time breeding so we will have to see how everything turns out!  Baby Boy to Tracey is a very nice breeding, so I am expecting some promising rabbits in the litter.  If Tracey takes, these kits will be available for sale around March 18^th.  They will be available with partial pedigrees- they will just be missing two generations on the mom’s side.   

We have had several nice litters from Wee One’s Cocoa and Blossom Acres’ Frostbite.  These kits were born December 27^th and December 29^th.  We are also expecting a litter from Blossom Acres’ Little White Lie on the 11^th of January.  These kits should be available for purchase beginning of March to mid March 2012.   All of the show and brood quality Lionheads will come with 3 generation pedigrees.  We are expecting black, blue, blue tort, black tort, REW, and shaded kits born, and will hopefully have some nice blue and blue-tort babies available for sale.  Some of these Lionhead kits will be chocolate carriers!!!       

The French Angoras are going well too.  I am expecting a litter mid January from Blossom Acres Lily of the Valley who is bred to Circle 6’s Fredrick.  Lily is one of my favorite does in the rabbitry- she has VERY good type and a lovely, dense fleece.  This breeding should produce some outstanding purebred kits with HUGE potential.  It will also be second generation of Blossom Acres!!!  This is going to be Lily’s first litter!  Farfelu’s Missy is also due with a litter a little later than her daughter; she too is bred to Fredrick.  All of these kits will come with 3 generation pedigrees and will be available for purchase beginning to mid March.  Once I finish showing some of my other seniors, I will be breeding them to Fredrick.
