First Grand Champion Lionhead!

I am very happy to announce that Blossom Acres' Arcturus, my Ruby Eyed White Sr. Lionhead buck, is now a Grand Champion!  He has 5 GC legs and counting!

In previous years, Lionheads were not been able to be registered, earn GC legs, or become Grand Champions, until February of this year when they became an official ARBA recognized breed.  So although they could show and win BOB, no matter how large the class was or the number of exhibitors, they could not work towards their Grand Championships until breed recognition.

Arcturus was born on the 7th of February, so while the rabbit show season was just picking up and Lionheads all over the country were hitting the show tables, Arcturus was busy growing with his brother and two sisters at home.  His parents are both from my own lines: Blossom Acres' Midnight Blizzard and Blossom Acres' Milky Way, and he has grandparents from my lines including Blossom Acres' Royal Blue who was the first buck that I ever retained from my own breeding.

Arcturus always stands out on the show table with his massive mane and natural stance.  He never needs to be posed because he is always posing on his own.  The judges love him and I am very excited to start incorporating this buck in my Lionhead breeding program.

We also came home with new acquaintances for the rabbitry.  I got a New Zealand Red buck prejunior from Razzle Dazzle Rabbitry.  He will be hanging around here for a while for a New Zealand Red project in the future.  I also picked up a broken black intermediate Satin buck for my lone black Satin doe.  She has been in need of a husband for a while so I am hoping I can get her bred soon for baby Satins.  We also have a new junior chocolate agouti Netherland Dwarf doe that we plan on using in our orange program in our Netherlands.

Here are some pictures of some of the new stock.  Here is Eric the Red as I named him.  He is a typical baby constantly on the move so it was hard getting pictures that showed his body at all.  I saw his sire at the show and he was a large, gorgeous, typey red buck with 1 GC Leg.  While the pictures don't show his type very well they do show off his rufus beautifully!

Here are some pictures of Equinox (my name as well).  I got a picture of him without my hand so you could see his markings but his body doesn’t appear as deep for this reason.  I also included a top shot.  He has amazing width for a buck so I am hoping he will make me some gorgeous kits when paired with Vanilla Bean.

Lily of the Valley has been progressing well through her pregnancy and I am looking forward to her litter in ten days!  I can’t wait to put some French Angoras on the table again.

We only have one Lionhead baby available for reservation from our last litters!  We are now taking in names for our current Lionhead litters that were born recently.  Please see the website for more information.  http://www.blossomacresrabbitry.webs.com

I will try to update this blog frequently so please keep checking it out!

New Lionhead Babies & Show Results

Our rabbitry is full of little baby Lionheads and there are some gorgeous show prospects in the nesting boxes!  We have 3 blacks, 3 blues, 2 REWs, 1 chocolate, 1 lilac, and 1 shaded.  I plan on keeping the chocolate and one out of Cocoa's litter, and will be watching them develop.

We exhibited our Lionheads at this show and did very well.  This was our first time showing with this club and I would love to go again next year!  There were beautiful rabbits there and great turnout in the Lionheads!
