Last Show and New Arrivals

The last show of the year is finally over.  We didn’t show much of our stock- most of them have been recently bred so they are still a bit out of condition.  Some of our bucks are getting older, so those older guys are pretty much done with their show career.  We did put a few Lionheads on the show table, and they did pretty well.  We ended up taking 1st and 2nd in class awards, BOV REW, BOV Blue-Tort, and BOV Chocolate on both shows, and on Show A Cocoa took BOS.

We have been very busy lately with our rabbitry.  Recently we purchased two new additions to our rabbitry- a sable-point Lionhead doe and a blue French Angora buck.  The Lionhead doe is very beautiful and has great overall type- she was purchased from Leo 9 Rabbitry. She was shown at the last show we exhibited at, and this girl took BOV on both Show A and Show B, and was even awarded BOB on Show B.  The French Angora buck is also very nice- excellent body with a gorgeous, dense wooly coat.  He is from Circle 6 Farm.  We haven’t put him on the show table yet, but plan to this coming year.

Our breeding plans didn’t go as I had expected- we weren’t able to breed our French does to those stud bucks.  I will try to arrange the breedings again.  Anyway, I bred Blossom Acres’ Lily of the Valley, a stunning REW doe and Farfelu’s Missy, a beautiful red doe to Circle 6’s Fredrick, a blue buck.  I am not sure if he is fertile yet, being around 4 months old, but I guess we’ll find out!  I also bred Tracey, my NZW doe to Nox, a black satin buck.  If all goes as planned, then Tracy, Missy, and Lily are due on the 13th of January.   We also bred 3 of our Lionhead does so we are expecting kits born December 27th , 2011and January 11th, 2012.  We bred two of our own lines and one other line to different bucks.  We are expecting blacks, blues, seals, REWs, blue- and black-torts from these breedings.  If interested please get on the waiting list for Lionheads, French Angoras, or NZW/Satin Hybrids.

I have been spinning up most of my freshly clipped or plucked angora fleeces from my French Angora stock.  It is fun playing around with the different fleeces from the different rabbits.  Missy’s fleece is one of my favorites- it spins like butter.  I still have a lot of the other French’s fleeces to try out, but most of them were already spoken for.  Currently I am working on a nice super fine yarn made from Missy’s wool.  I plan on making this skein one ply French Angora (Missy) and one ply lambs wool.  I am still debating whether I should use Finn wool or a Romney for the other ply.

We have sold Leo 9’s Nolla and Blossom Acres’ Mickey so we only have one Lionhead rabbit left.  She currently has 2 inquiries so if the sales don’t go through then she will be available for purchase.  More information can be found on our website:  blossomacresrabbitry.webs.com.
